Cuba experiences today a special joy for Fidel Castro''s 90th birthday, the historic leader of the Revolution that began on January 1st, 1959.
Being an ideological paradigm and a living example for the children of the Caribbean nation and the progressive forces around the globe, activities and initiatives both in Cuba and overseas have been held in his honor, with special emphasis on this particular Saturday.
In the program stands out the special presentation at the Karl Marx theater by the children theater company "La Colmenita", Unicef's Goodwill Ambassador, dedicated to the iconic revolutionary leader and his work.
In addition, the conclusion of the Meeting of Anti-imperialist Students, summoned by the Continental Association of Latin American and Caribbean Students (Oclae) and dedicated to leader for his anniversary promises to be a fair tribute to his ideas of regional unity and fight against imperialism.
Since the beginning of the year several sectors of Cuban society, grouped in governmental and non-governmental organizations, associations and groups, also carried out celebrations and specific events as to celebrate the date.
Similarly, he was recognized and honored for his key role and impulse for the development of each of its fields.
Example of these tributes are the amount of recognitions and awards received by Fidel Castro in academic and professional exchange events, in different areas such as education, health, culture, sports and science, among others.
Likewise, there are included concerts, book presentations and photographic exhibitions dedicated to him.
For the occasion, the Cuban statesman also received congratulation messages from leaders and influential personalities of other nations, and he was also awarded with distinctions from prestigious centers and institutions.
Fidel Castro is recognized worldwide for his leadership of the Cuban Revolution within which it was materialized an Agrarian reform, the most radical on the continent, and a literacy campaign that led to the hemisphere's largest cultural revolution.
His work and thought are admired for their historical, Cuban and universal sense, their internationalist, anti-imperialist and anti-capitalist character and seen as contemporary bastions of resistance and struggle for another world order.
