A special meeting on Cuba was held as part of the second chapter of the Latin American World Economic Forum which concluded in this Colombian city Friday after a two-day session at the Intercontinental Medellin Hotel.
The forum was headed by the Ministers of Foreign Trade and Investment of Cuba, Rodrigo Malmierca and of Commerce, Industry and Tourism of Colombia, María Claudia Lacouture, as well as by Alicia Bárcena, Executive Secretaryof the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (Eclac).
The Colombian Minister explained in her speech the importance for her country and Cuba to have signed the economic complementariety this Friday.
For her part, the Executive Secretary of Eclac highlighted the role played by Havana in Latin American integration, the potentiality of her economy to attract foreign capital and the importance that the blockade imposed on the island be lifted.
Barcena also highlighted the potentialities shown by Cuba after having complied with the stages of millennium development objectives to achieve its growth targets.
Meanwhile, Malmierca detailed the updating process of the Cuban economic model and mentioned the debates presently taking place at targets until 2030 with all his country population and the potentialities of the island to land joint ventures in different sectors of the economy.
The forum also had the presence of Cuban ambassador, Jose Luis Ponce.
In that special exchange on the island, held briefly before the closing of the World Economic Forum at the capital of Antioquia, participated 600 persons, including the Forum director for Latin America, Marisol Argueta, and businesspeople from several countries.
