Surinamese Foreign Minister Lygia Louise Irene Kraag-Keteldijk paid homage to Cuban national hero Jose Marti during her visit to Cuba.
The tribute was held at Havana's Revolution Square where the foreign minister placed a floral wreath at the monument to Marti and then visited the museum dedicated to the Cuban hero, considered one of the greatest thinkers of the history of Cuba.
In statements to the press, the official thanked Cuban authorities for the help provided to her country. Currently Cuba has 12 health specialists working in Suriname and 43 Surinamese students have graduated from Cuban universities.
Lygia Louise Irene Kraag-Keteldijk said the visit to Havana represents the interest of her country to strengthen friendship and bilateral cooperation bonds of the two countries. The Foreign minister was invited by her Cuban counterpart Felipe Perez Roque.
Cuban officials expressed their gratitude over Surinam's permanent support since 1994 of Cuba's demand before the United Nations to lift the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US against Cuba.
