Suriname Foreign Minister To Visit Cuba
Suriname’s Foreign Minister Lygia Kraag- Keteldijk, arrives in Cuba on Saturday for a four-day visit at the invitation of her Cuban counterpart Felipe Perez Roque, with whom she will hold talks.

Suriname’s Foreign Minister Lygia Kraag- Keteldijk, arrives in Cuba on Saturday for a four-day visit at the invitation of her Cuban counterpart Felipe Perez Roque, with whom she will hold talks.
The visit of the foreign minister, which is the second one to Cuba, is expected to boost the existing ties of friendship and cooperation between the two nations, reported Granma newspaper.
The delegation from Suriname also includes: Jane Aarland-Nanhu, permanent secretary of the Foreign Ministry; Robby Ramlakhan, chief of the Office of Integration; Manorma Soeknandan, Suriname’s ambassador to Cuba and Eurdice Hofwijks, director of America ai.
Cuba and Surinam reestablished diplomatic relations based on mutual respect on May 12, 1995.
Since 1994, Surinam has voted in favor of the Cuban resolution in the UN General Assembly that opposes the US blockade on the island.
At this time 12 Cuban health workers are providing services in Suriname.
Likewise, to date 43 young people from Suriname have graduated from Cuban education centers. Currently 13 Suriname citizens are studying medicine at the Latin American School of Medical Sciences.

World Baseball Classic Announces Venues
HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 2 (acn) Los Angeles will serve as a venue for the semifinals and finals of the Second World Baseball Classic (WBC) in March, 2009, while San Diego and Miami will be the scene for second round games.
The announcement was made at a press conference held at Dodger Stadium by Gene Orza, head of the Office of Operations of the Major League Players Association, which was one of the organizers of the first Classic in 2006.
The 16 teams will once again play in four groups. Pool A involves the Asian teams (Japan, the current WBC Champ, Chinese Taipei, South Korea and China), with the Tokyo Dome as its first round venue. Pool B: Cuba, Mexico, Australia and South Africa, will play in the Foro Sol Stadium in Mexico City.
The first two teams of each of those groups will then travel to San Diego for second round play at the same Petco Park Stadium where runner- up Cuba played at the first WBC.
Pool C includes the United States, Venezuela, Canada and Italy and plays their first round in Toronto, Canada. Pool D, with the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Holland and Panama will open at the Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The top two teams of each of those groups will play their round two in Miami at the Dolphins Stadium.
