For the twentieth consecutive year, the United Nations General Assembly will express its condemnation of the U.S. economic and political blockade against Cuba.
In the presence of the Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, the global forum will vote on Tuesday a resolution on the “Need of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba.”
That's the title of a report presented by Cuba to the UNGA this year, which details the profound damage caused by the so-called U.S. embargo to the Cuban people, estimated at 975 billion dollars.
Last year, an overwhelming majority of 187 countries voted in favor of a similar resolution, which was only opposed by the United States and Israel.
Cuba has repeatedly expressed its willingness to move towards the normalization of diplomatic relations with the United States, and has as well proposed bilateral dialogue on issues related to migration and humanitarian aid.
However, US response has been so far the intensification of the punitive measures against the Cuba and any company that dares to establish trade relations with the small Caribbean state.
