The Uruguayan Committee for the Release of five Cuban patriots held in US prisons will hold a solidarity meeting on Saturday to support Cuba and condemn the media campaign against the island nation.

The organization issued a communiqué calling on people to participate in the rally to support the Cuban Revolution. The meeting will be held at Plaza Libertad, in Montevideo, and will begin at 17:30 hours (local time).

"We demand respect for the Cuban people's domestic affairs to define and exercise democracy, according to the universal principles of non-interference in other countries' internal affairs, as agreed upon by the United Nations," the communiqué says.

The document adds that the same invaders of Iraq, trainers of torturers, who control 90 percent of all media organizations, "cannot continue to make us believe their lies".

"Cuba chose its path and our duty is to respect it  Cuba helps us when it cures the eyes of our compatriots, it helps us see that another world is possible," the document notes.

"That is why, we are calling on all Uruguayans to express their solidarity with Cuba and gather to condemn this imperialist media campaign," the communiqué concludes.
