US Organizations Urge Washington to End Economic Blockade of Cuba
A coalition of US-based solidarity-with-Cuba organizations will demonstrate on Sunday, March 1st in front of the Cuban Mission to the United Nations to express their friendship and support of the Cuban Revolution.

A coalition of US-based solidarity-with-Cuba organizations will demonstrate on Sunday, March 1st in front of the Cuban Mission to the United Nations to express their friendship and support of the Cuban Revolution.
The action will support Cubas demand that the nearly-50-year US economic blockade must be lifted; that Washington must normalize relations, end the travel ban and release the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly held in US prisons, according to press release by the organizers.
We will show that our closet neighbor to the South has more friends than enemies in the United States, reads the announcement.
The call for participation at the rally was issued by several organizations, such as IFCO-Pastors for Peace, Cuba-Solidarity NY, Socialist Workers Party, the Venceremos Brigade, International Action Center, the A.N.S.W.E.R Coalition, the Popular Education Project to free the Cuban Five, Cuba Labor Exchange among other organizations.
In their press release those organizations blast the media campaign maintained against the Caribbean nation and its Revolution over the years and manipulations of the rally¹s objectives by anti-Cuba circles, by reading that.
We have heard all this before the old tactic of trying to influence the general public¹s opinion and the policy-makers in Washington that the blockade must be maintained and strengthened. We know how such organizations are funded from sources like USAID, Fund For Democracy and more recently, funds earmarked by the Commission For Assistance to a ŒFree Cuba for anti-Castro propaganda and other channels connected directly to Washington.
In contrast to such worn out attacks, the release by the organizations points out that We know fifty years of survival and achievements tell another story: Currently Cuba has the lowest infant mortality rate in all of Latin America, lower in fact than many cities in the United States. The Cuban people are 98% literate and, unlike the industrialized free market nations, Cuba doesn¹t foster homelessness and rampant drug addiction. This is a revolution worth defending again and again.
The solidarity-with-Cuba action is scheduled to take place Sunday at 12 noon in front of the Cuban mission on 315 Lexington Avenue (between 38th & 39th Sts. in Manhattan).
In a gesture of solidarity with participants at the rally and in support of the Cuban Revolution, the Table de Concertation de Solidarité-Québec Cuba issued a statement congratulating the organizers and participants who are defending Cuba at a time when there is an increasingly serious debate going on in your country and internationally as to the necessity to immediately lift this inhuman blockade which has caused and results now in so much material and human damage to the Cuban people.
The letter was also addressed to the office of the Prime Minister of Canada, Honourable Stephen Harper.
