The national meeting of the Venezuela-Cuba Mutual Solidarity and Friendship Movement begins today in the northern state of Falcon, and will be a platform to condemn the U.S. blockade on the Caribbean nation, organizers said.
Jhonny Garcia Calles, general coordinator of the organization, has said the forum will demand the end of that extraterritorial policy Washington has been promoting against the island for more than 50 years.
They will also demand the return of the U.S. naval base in Guantanamo, Cuba, compensation for the damages caused in these decades of blockade and the definitive cessation of illegal broadcasting from Miami, he added.
The battle for the cessation of the U.S. siege has been a duty of those who have Cuba as an example of resistance to the imperial jaws and the efforts to build a just and inclusive society, in which all human rights are respected.
This has been a permanent item in all meetings, because it will be in our agenda until it has disappeared and all progressive forces of the world can celebrate it, much more now that it has been strengthened despite the alleged easing of the administration of Barack Obama, he said.
About 191 countries voted in favor of the Cuban resolution presented in October to the United Nations, and only Israel and the United States abstained. The genocide that has lasted more than 50 years still continues, he said.
The national meeting of the Mutual Solidarity Movement will run until tomorrow, with the participation of representatives of 17 regional committees.
