The call made by the Workers Confederation of Cuba (CTC) to unions on each working place of this central province was also undertaken by the Committees of the Defense of the Revolution on each neighborhood, where cederistas, youths and children fixed gardens, painted facades and hung 26-of-July and Cuban flags on home windows, in their communities.
Consuelo Baeza, CTC’s general secretary in Villa Clara, told ACN that all unions were called for the volunteer work except in industries and agricultural entities which maintained the forces required to secure the production.
The seven main roads into the city of Santa Clara were adorned with posters, banderoles and 26-of-July and Cuban flags. Also, billboards with the image of Argentinean guerrilla fighter Ernesto Che Guevara have been placed across the city.
Because of positive social and economic outcomes attained in the province, Villa Clara was selected to host the national celebrations of Cuba’s Rebelliousness Day on July 26 and the 57 anniversary of the Assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes Garrisons by Cuban revolutionary forces in eastern Cuba.
