In an effort to increase the production of the anti-meningococcal vaccines for Cuba and other countries, a new plant
will be inaugurated on Wednesday, at the Havana-based Finlay Medical Research Institute.
The new facility has a production capacity of up to 100 million doses of vaccine active components, said Research Institute director Dr.
Concepcion Campa in conversation with ACN.
The production plan also includes a vaccine against typhoid, while in the near future the plant will also add to its list the multivalent vaccine against pneumococcus, a bacterium associated with pneumonia and some forms of meningitis.
The new plant was built with the participation of the Ministries of Construction, Basic Industry, the Revolutionary Armed Forces, and the Council of State, among other institutions. All its facilities were designed and built taking into account the international standards of the pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Campa explained.
The plant will be inaugurated on December 3 to mark the Day of the Latin American Medicine.
