The involvement of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (FARC-EP) in the country's polítical life ought to have guarantees that must be addressed from the negotiating table, said members of the guerrilla organization today.
According to Andres Paris, a member of the FARC-EP team in the talks installed in Cuba with the Colombian Government, the agenda of the talks "includes precisely broadening the democratic possibilities for left wing forces representing the people to be able to have a presence in the country's political life."
In an interview with Prensa Latina, the guerrilla fighter said changes and reforms are needed in the political institutionality of the country, plunged into decades of armed conflict.
Meanwhile, another member of FARC-EP, Tanja Nijmeijer, said that the involvement of civil society is essential to achieve peace with social justice in Colombia.
"We are a people up in arms, demanding peace with social justice; then we have to be there, it is fundamental in the process," she said referring to the contribution of Colombian citizens to the talks started in Havana on Nov. 19 between FARC-EP and the Colombian Government.
In remarks to Prensa Latina, the young Dutchwoman said that the end of the conflict ought to have the presence of all sectors in the construction of a situation of peace, in the wake of decades of hostilities which have claimed the lives of thousands of innocent people and have displaced millions of persons.
