The US economic-financial blockade of Cuba that began more than 50 years ago is a form of genocide against the Cuban people, Roberto Amaral, first Vice President of the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB) said today.

It is an arrogant action, "a genocidal action" that is not against the Cuban government, but "against the Cuban people," Amaral remarked in an interview with Prensa Latina news agency.

"Our stance has always been clear, supportive of the Revolution and against that hostile policy from the White House administration," he asserted at the PSB headquarters in this capital.

He recalled that this political group has always supported Cuba. The Cuban Communist Party was the first foreign organization with which the PSB established relations, he said.

"Cuba was the first nation to which the PSB sent an official delegation" in 1987, said Amaral.

Refounded in 1985, this political group is participating in the coalition of the federal government, started by then President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, from 2003 to 2010 and continued by current President Dilma Rousseff.
