More than 50 organizations from all over Spain have gathered here today at the 14th State Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba to analyze the consequences of the U.S. blockade of the Caribbean country, among other issues.
About 200 representatives from 66 Spanish friendship associations are meeting here until Sunday, June 11, to ratify their unconditional support for the Cuban Revolution and to defend it from the attacks of its detractors.
In addition to analyzing the effects of the five-decade-long U.S. economic, financial and commercial blockade, the event, which is taking place at the Bilborock Hall in Bilbao, the Basque Country, will discuss the strategies to counteract the misinformation campaigns on Cuba.
The work done over the last two years by the solidarity movement, which held the 13th edition of this meeting in 2015 in Zaragoza, in the Spanish autonomous community of Aragon, will be also reviewed.
At the opening ceremony of the debates and workshops, Jose Manzaneda, coordinator of Cubainformacion, said on Saturday that the so-called Media Plan of the Solidarity Movement with Cuba will be approved in Bilbao.
Campaigns to reject the U.S. blockade of Cuba and to demand the return of the illegally-occupied Cuban territory in Guantanamo will also take place.
As a prelude to the event, hundreds of people paid tribute on Friday night to Fidel Castro, who died on November 25, 2016, and to the legendary guerrilla leader Ernesto Che Guevara, whose assassination five decades ago in Bolivia will be commemorated in October.
