Writer Abel Prieto, advisor to the President of the Councils of State and Ministers of Cuba, will speak today about current cultural events in Cuba, at the 35th International Book Fair in Montevideo.
Prieto also will be also declared Honored Guest of Montevideo on Thrusday.
'La cultura en la Cuba de hoy' (Culture in Today's Cuba), a current overview of the artistic, literary, and cultural institutions in that Caribbean nation, will be the subject Prieto will address with those attending the fair.
Uruguayan Minister of Education and Culture, Ricardo Ehrlich, Cuba's ambassador to Uruguay Carmen Zilia Perez Mazon, and Uruguay's ambassador to Cuba Ariel Bergamino will attend the master lecture.
Another guest speaker is poet Aitana Alberti, based in Cuba, who under the title 'La palabra y el signo' (The Word and The Sign), will remember his father Rafael Alberti, the famous Spanish writer and playwright, and member of the Generation of '27.
The fair, being held in the atrium of the Intendencia in Montevideo, was opened on October 3 and will end on Sunday, October 14.
Organizers said that more than 200 writers, intellectuals, journalists and sociologists, as well as some 40 publishers are attending the fair.
