Two Cuban epidemiologists have arrived in Colombo to help Sri Lanka fight a dengue fever outbreak, using a bio-insecticide program developed in Cuba, ColomboPage reported.
Cuban experts will present Sri Lanka Health Ministry a detailed report for the use of the Bacillus Thuringensis Israelensis (BTI), a bacterium that kills the larvae of the mosquito transmitting the dengue disease.
Sri Lanka Public Health Director Palitha Maheepala said the government will implement the Cuban bio-insecticide program once they review the document presented by the two Cuban experts.
The Cuban experts have toured this country in an attempt to gather information for the report, and they have finally finished their research, ColomboPage says.
Sri Lanka Health Ministry has reported the death of 232 people in Sri Lanka during 2009, and the infection of other 22, 849 because of dengue.
