Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca, began today in Vietnam an international promotion of the special development zone of Mariel port, about 45 kilometers from Havana.
This was expressed by the Cuban minister when explaining that this promotion obeys the historical bilateral ties with Vietnam, a country that has developed its productive forces and has the economic capacity to participate in the project, already implemented.
The Cuban minister made a presentation about this issue in front of an audience of Vietnamese businessmen, in which he talked on the reasons, advantages, legal and favorable environmental conditions, and potential sectors for investing in this mega-project.
Among those he mentioned biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, food agriculture, tourism, real estate, containers and packaging, agriculture, general industry, telecommunications and information technology, and infrastructure.
During the opening in this capital of a seminar about the issue, the first vice president of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Vietnam, Hoang Van Dung, referred to the potentialities to complementarily increase the current exchanges, and the prospect that domestic companies can expand from Mariel to Latin American markets.
Malmierca presides over the Cuban delegation participating in the 31st session of the Government Committee that draws the mutual trade and economic cooperation strategy at mid term, which will end on Thursday, September 19.
His agenda also included meetings with Industry Minister Vu Huy Hoang, Deputy Agriculture Minister Le Quoc Doanh, and Petrovietnam, Hanel and Viettel corporations.
