The internationally renowned Cuban National Ballet (BNC) will shortly begin a tour of Mexico and Canada, to perform simultaneously divided in two groups, while a third troupe of the company will continue performances in Cuba.

Headed by its director, prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso, the BNC will perform in the Mexican state of Yucatan with the ballet "Don Quijote," with choreography by Alonso, based on the original by Petipa and version of Alexander Gorski, with script and design by Salvador Fernandez.

Performances will take place at the Merida Cathedral Square, in the Yucatan capital, on February 26, 27 and 28. The leading roles will be interpreted by dancers Anette Delgado, Javier Torres, Elier Bourzac and Viengsay Valdes.

In Canada, as part of exchanges with the Hamilton Youth Ballet, Cuban dancers will stage the ballet Hansel and Gretel, by Eduardo Blanco, based on the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale.

With music by Jules Massenet, Richard Wagner, Serguei Prokofiev and Joseph Luigini, dancers as Merlen Fuentes, Regina Hernandez, Yonah Acosta and Yadil Suarez, among others, will incarnate the main characters.
