The Fourth International Seminar on Peace and Abolition of Military Bases continues today here its working sessions with the presence of more than 200 pacifists from 46 countries.
Nuclear disarmament, the end of the blockade against Cuba, military bases as a force of war, and the negative effects of the military enclaves, are some of the issues to be discussed.
The second day of discussions, in the halls of that institution, will begin with the laying of a wreath at the monument to Cuban heroine Mariana Grajales at the square that bears her name.
The event, which from yesterday to Nov. 25 is being held in this city, is a forum that denounces the U.S. interventionist policies, according to statements by its participants.
The seminar takes place just in this eastern Cuban province, because a portion of this territory is occupied by the illegal U.S. naval base established against the will of the people in 1903, as part of the Naval and Coal Stations Agreement, canceled by Cuba since 1960, but the United States refuses to accept.
The return of this territory is one of the Cubans' main demands since the triumph of the Revolution, and a key element in the ongoing process towards the normalization of relations between the two countries.
