Economic Crisis at Cuba NAM Meeting
Finding solutions to the world economic crisis and other latent problems for developing countries are on the table for the ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) starting on Monday in Cuba. The forum gathering some 60 foreign ministers will also be used to make last arrangement for the upcoming 15th NAM Summit to be run in Egypt in July.

The forum gathering some 60 foreign ministers will also be used to make last arrangement for the upcoming 15th NAM Summit to be run in Egypt in July.
For Cuba, which will pass the pro tempore presidency to Egypt, this will be the last event under the Havana three-year mandate began in Sep. 2006.
For four days, ministers and representatives from 120 out of the 135 NAM member states and observers will discuss issues like nuclear disarmament.
NAM support to the Palestinian people, the lifting of western sanctions on Zimbabwe, the end of the US economic blockade of Cuba, and debates on the Iranian nuclear situation are also scheduled.
Founded in Belgrade in 1961, the non aligned movement has stressed peoples’ right to self-determination, independence.
Under Cuba’s presidency, the organization’s goals were included in the United Nations agenda.
NAM also played an active role with the International Labor Organization, the World Health Organization, and in the Human Rights Council, as well as with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
