Fidel Castro is a fundamental political, cultural and human reference point for the world, Luciano Vasapollo said, vice-rector of The Sapienza University of Rome.
We had the great honor of visiting often and meeting Fidel Castro, who has been for a decade participating with us in the activities organized by the National Association of Cuban Economists (ANEC), Vasapollo told Prensa Latina.
He was always present. He was always in charge of closing ANEC events, and helped me a lot; and I - he stated - consider myself today as a Marxist and well-trained with his political and cultural thinking.
We were here last year at the funeral of Fidel Castro and later we talked with ANEC Vice President, Ramon Labañino, and we came up with the idea to make a book entitled 'I am Fidel: Political and Economic Thinking'.
We strongly needed Italian and European young people to study Fidel´s ideas, who has been -as well as the Cuban people- a target of lies circulated by the media, Vasapollo said.
As it also happened to the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and also the current Venezuelan President, Nicolas Maduro.
We, however, know that Fidel Castro has been also respected by his enemies, and received the affection of the peoples to defend the right to self-determination of nations, according to Vasapollo.
He stressed that Cuba and Latin America can not be understood if we do not understand Marti's ideas.
