The commander of the insurgent FARC-EP, Ivan Marquez, said today that with Fidel Castro's death, one of the most beloved and emblematic leaders of the world, the main protagonist of the 20th century, has left.
Speaking at an event to pay posthumous tribute to the founder of the process of changes known as the Cuban Revolution, the guerrilla leader described Fidel as a strategist who was beyond his era.
Fidel Castro has started his journey to eternity and we do not feel sorrow or are in mourning, because he leaves our soul full of examples and actions of love for a better planet, underlined Marquez, who is the head of the delegation from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (FARC-EP) at the recently-finalized peace talks with the National Government.
On Tuesday, members of the secretariat of that guerrilla movement signed the book of condolences at the Cuban Embassy in this capital, and ratified their admiration for Cuba and Fidel.
Among the many things expressed by his sublime figure (...) we learned that all enemies can be defeated, that no force can make a people who are determined to fight for their rights surrender, that those cannot fight for others will never be capable enough to fight for themselves, added Marquez when reading a message signed by the FARC-EP.
Fidel Castro passed away last Friday in Havana. Since then, activists, politicians, human rights advocates and members of friendship movements have visited the Cuban Embassy to express their sorrow for his death and their solidarity with the Caribbean country. Without an iota of regret, Fidel faced the condemnation of the oppressors, facing the trial of history, convinced about his absolution, because he knew the fairness of his unquestionable struggle for a free country, he noted.
Finally, Marquez acknowledged the contribution of the legendary revolutionary to the search for peace for Colombia.
Each FARC-EP member, on behalf of humble Colombia, which due to him will also feel the caress of peace, say, Hasta siempre, Fidel! (...) Infinite honor and gratitude.
