The German Network of Solidarity will continue working to strengthen relations between the two countries, as the basis for bilateral negotiations has changed, said its leader Henri Grunberg.
In an event to mark the tenth anniversary of the German presence in the Havana Book Fair 2013, the activist said that Ciba is not alone or isolated, as proven by its pro tempore presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), a regional bloc grouping 33 independent countries of the area.
Germany and the European Union have become aware that in order to improve their relations with Latin America, they have to do it first with Cuba, which is a light that illuminates the path to progress, and to be in solidarity with Cuba is to be in solidarity with the Europeans who are fighting for a better world.
First Deputy President of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Elio Gamez, recalled the attitude of the Solidarity Network ten years ago, when Cuba decided to dedicate the Book Fair to the Federal Republic of Germany and that government rejected the invitation.
Then the Network decided to come and its members were present in the Fair, thus materializing the exchange between both peoples, noted Gamez, who appreciated the Networks solidarity since its foundation 30 years ago and its contribution to the struggle for the release of the five anti-terrorist Cuban fighters unfairly held in US prisons.
