LatAm Reporters Blast Cuba Blockade

The Federation of Latin American Journalists (FELAP) demanded Friday that the US government immediately end the blockade of Cuba.
The FELAP, comprised of over 80,000 journalists in the region, endorsed the Cuban artists and academics' call, published in the website www.cubahoy.cult.cu.
The announcement denounces Washington's hostile and aggressive policy against Cuba, recently devastated by the path of two powerful hurricanes.
The document, approved by over 7,000 scholars and creators from more than a hundred countries, terms ridiculous a questionable proposal for support from the US government to the Caribbean nation, while denying the possibility of purchasing some necessary materials to rebuild Cuba.
The US administration also denied the island trade credits to buy food,although the United States has opened a debate on restrictions imposed to the Cuban residents in that country to visit and support their relatives in Cuba.
The recent hurricanes Gustav and Ike have caused serious damages to food production systems here, as well as other essential branches of the national economy.
"Let's appeal to sensibility of thinkers and artists throughout the world to demand the immediate lifting of the criminal US blockade and foster actions of solidarity and support for Cuba," concludes the text.
