Mexico: Quintana Roo on Alert for Hurricane Paula
The Mexican Caribbean state of Quintana Roo was brought to a partial halt Wednesday due to the imminence of Hurricane Paula, with entire communities evacuated, and public activities suspended.

The Mexican Caribbean state of Quintana Roo was brought to a partial halt Wednesday due to the imminence of Hurricane Paula, with entire communities evacuated, and public activities suspended.
Local authorities began evacuating vulnerable areas such as Mujeres Island, Punta Allen, Holbox, and Chiguila on Tuesday afternoon, while a red alert is maintained for large part of that territory of the Yucatan Peninsula
The outgoing governor of Quintana Roo, Felix Gonzalez Canto, said no decision had been made yet on the transfer of some 30,000 tourists from local resorts.
However, the flights at the Cancun airport were cancelled in the last few hours, and schools in the most vulnerable areas were closed until further notice.
The area under hurricane alert extends from the capital, Chetumal, to San Felipe.
About 130 people have died during the current hurricane season in Mexico, and nearly one million have been affected by hurricanes Alex, in late June, and Karl and Matthew, in September.
