Cuban and Mexican parliamentarians hold a dialogue on Friday on collaboration projects to boost bilateral relations.
During the 17th Interparliamentary Meeting sessions, running till Saturday, four panels will discuss economic relations, health collaboration, multilateral cooperation, and educational, cultural, and sports links.
Zailin Gaulhiac Moráguez, an official of the International Relations Commission of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba, commented that these inter-parliamentary meetings prove a valuable instrument to raise initiatives among participating countries to seek solutions to common problems and outline future strategies.
A press release from the Cuban parliament informed that the official program of the meeting includes visits to scientific centers. At the end of the event, the delegations will issue a Final Declaration.
In June 1996, the Congress of the United Mexican States and the National Assembly of People's Power of the Republic of Cuba signed a Protocol establishing the holding of Interparliamentary Meetings between both countries.
The primary purpose was to lay the foundations for permanent cooperation and exchange of information that would solve common problems and promote the development of Latin America and the Caribbean.
During these years, the two legislatures have recognized that strengthening democracy and economic cooperation are the most important points and have pronounced themselves in favor of respect for the principles of non-intervention and sovereign self-determination.
