Army General Raul Castro paid a posthumous homage on Monday to more than 2,000 Cuban internationalists fallen in Africa, buried simultaneously in the Tribute Operation.

Army General Raul Castro paid a posthumous homage on Monday to more than 2,000 Cuban internationalists fallen in Africa, buried simultaneously in the Tribute Operation.
The Cuban president presided over the political-military ceremony that recalled the operation, which brought the remains of those martyrs to the Homeland 20 years ago.
Lieutenant General Alvaro Lopez Miera, a veteran of two missions in Angola and one in Ethiopia, evoked that deed and the friendship between Cuba and the African peoples.
The also hero of the Republic and deputy minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces' General Staff stated that Cuba will continue preparing for the defense, not only to avoid a war but also to respond any military aggression.
The ceremony also commemorated the 113th anniversary of the fall in combat of Lieutenant General Antonio Maceo, independentist chief and a paradigm of courage.
Wreath to Maceo and his assistant Panchito Gomez Toro, communist leader Blas Roca and Juan Fajardo Vega, the last "rebel" as combatants of the struggles against Spanish colonialism were called, were laid during the ceremony.
At the end of the activity, Raul Castro greeted representatives of the military diplomatic staff, along with students, and political and grassroots authorities attended the meeting.
