Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and President of Cuba, Raul Castro on Friday paid tribute to the internationalist Soviet soldier.
The leaders visited the Mausoleum erected in memory of the Soviets who met solidarity missions in the Caribbean country, as part of the working visit from Thursday by Medvedev to Cuba.
After the ceremony, Raul Castro and Prime Minister held a brief dialogue, with the participation of Mikhail Kamynin, Russian ambassador in Havana, and Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez.
The Prime Minister also visited Thursday the Russian stand in the 22nd International Book Fair Cuba 2013, where he met with Cuban children and Russian writers and received a detailed explanation of the books, documents and graphic images that collect moments of the visits by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, to the former Soviet Union.
The visitor was accompanied by First Vice President of the Council of State of Cuba, Jose Ramon Machado Ventura, who also could appreciate the different volumes that exhibits the European nation in this edition, about 1500 books, of which 30 percent belong to novice writers, members of the delegation attending this literary event. .
Russian Prime Minister arrived Thursday to Cuba, where he met with Raul Castro paid tribute to Cuban national hero, José Martí, and attended the signing of a dozen agreements.
Havana and Moscow agreed mechanisms in the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes, hydrometeorology, environmental monitoring, tariff preferences, education, nuclear medicine and aviation, and other sectors.
Both countries established diplomatic relations in October 1942, which were interrupted in 1952 by the regime of Fulgencio Batista and resumed in May 1960.
Besides bilateral political ties at the highest level, Cuba and Russia have ties in investment, trade, tourism, health and culture.
In 2009, the parties signed a Memorandum on the principles of strategic partnership between the two nations, materialized during a visit by President Raul Castro, to Russia.
