The famous Paraguayan writer-novelist accompanied him on his return trip to Cuba to present the Cuban edition of his books Hijo de hombre (Son of Man) and Yo, el Supremo (I, the Supreme) at the Casa de las Américas. Fidel and Roa Bastos had met in Buenos Aires in 1959 and they met again during the Cuban leader’s three-day visit to Paraguay where he had attended the swearing in of President Nicanor Duarte.
