UNASUR Meeting in Quito Talks Aid to Haiti
Delegations from 12 member countries of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) started to arrive in Quito on Monday for the special meeting to be held at the Carondelet Presidential Palace today.

Delegations from 12 member countries of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) started to arrive in Quito on Monday for the special meeting to be held at the Carondelet Presidential Palace today.
The special meeting of heads of State and Government is expected to discuss exclusively the Haitian issue and define actions to be taken by UNASUR members to meet concrete needs of the Caribbean nation devastated by a quake on January 12.
UNASUR Coordinator, Ambassador Emilio Izquierdo, said a mid and long-term strategy is expected to be designed for comprehensive reconstruction and job generation in Haiti.
Results of the Haitian visit of Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa as the bloc's pro-tempore president, including the magnitude of the tragedy and the meetings with Haitian President Rene Preval, will be informed to the delegations.
Izquierdo confirmed the attendance of Presidents Hugo Chavez (Venezuela), Alvaro Uribe (Colombia), Alan Garcia (Peru), Fernando Lugo (Paraguay), Rafael Correa (Ecuador), Rene Preval (Haiti) and Vice President Alvaro Garcia (Bolivia).
Other top officials who have confirmed their attendance include Foreign ministres of Argentina, Suriname and the Dominican Republic, as well as the Brazilian presidential advisor for International Affairs and high-ranking officials from Guyana, Chile and Uruguay.
Also attending will be General Secretary of the Organization of American States (OAS) Jose Miguel Insulza and delegate of the Inter-American Development Bank Ciro de Falco.
The meeting is scheduled to start at 10:00 local time and end with a press conference around 14:00.
