As if to prove that no sector is not exempted from its attacks, the U.S. blockade on Cuba uses today all possible obstacles to the development of the Cuban tourism.
The same strategy devised for other areas of the economy, trade, health, and education, is being applied to prevent that tourism, currently playing an important role in fund-raising efforts by the country, can achieve its objectives.
It is well known the tangle of regulations and laws destined to prevent the increasing number of tourists from any nation and especially from the United States arriving in the territory of the island, using for this purpose an arsenal of propaganda to influence negatively those wishing to travel to Cuba.
In a one-year period covered by the report presented by the Caribbean state at UN for discussion in the General Assembly, which deals with the damage caused by the U.S. siege, the severe damages caused to the sphere of services can be read.
According to competent authorities, the amount of those losses during the last year rose to $1.5 million USD.
This is due to problems caused in provision of services and normal operations, as well as the damages suffered in decisive logistical services in this kind of activity.
The report stated that even when the agreements reached between the governments of Cuba and the United States create favorable conditions for a significant increase in visits by Americans to the island, it is pertinent to emphasize that the blockade maintains the ban on tourist travel to Cuban territory.
Because of the blockade, Cuban hotels can only use the Amadeus reservation system with global scope, while another three are inhibited to mix with Cuban authorities for fear of being fined and seeing threatened its U.S. sales.
Those realities represent the illegal attempts to boycott Cuban initiatives in the tourism sector, vital to achieve incomes exclusively for resolving basic needs of the people.
