Cuban Vicepresident Esteban Lazo met with Hungarian Communist Workers' Party (HCWP) leader Gyula Thurmer, Granma newspaper reported Tuesday.
Lazo explained in the meeting efforts carried out by the Cuban party and government to maintain the nation's economic and social development and face strong damage caused by the path of three devastating hurricanes last year, the daily states.
The two officials also exchanged criteria on the current international situation, characterized by a strong economic crisis.
The Cuban delegation expressed the HCWP gratitude for the reiterated examples of solidarity, its condemnation to the US blockade against the island 50 years ago, and actions of support to release five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters unfairly imprisoned in US jails.
Thurmer, who is in Havana on an invitation by the Cuban Communist Party (PCC), congratulated the Caribbean nation on the occasion of the 50 anniversary of its Revolution.
Members of the secretariat of the PCC Central Committee and other officials also attended the gathering.
