Guatemalan President Alvaro Colom described on Tuesday his visit to Cuba as positive and fruitful and added that he was satisfied with his meeting with his Cuban counterpart Raul Castro.
Speaking to reporters after a visit to the Havana-based Center of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (CIGB), the Central American leader praised Cuba's development in the production of vaccines, "which - along with the petrochemical industry - is a sector in which both countries could increase trade relations," he noted.
Regarding Latin American integration, Colom highlighted the favorable conditions that exist in the region and added that it is now possible for Latin American and Caribbean nations to become more united. "It is the responsibility of today's leaders to attain this integration and unity in Latin America," he stressed.
Among the main results of his visit to Cuba , he mentioned the production of vaccines and research in this field in which Guatemala can assimilate the Cuban experiences to develop similar technologies.
He also referred to the Cuban literacy method 'Yo si puedo' (Yes, I Can) and praised the potential that exists in the construction of houses with oil-derived materials.
