Zambia’s Eagle Order Bestowed on Fidel Castro

The historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, was decorated with the Eagle Order of Zambia in its First Degree by the President of the African country, Rupiah Bwezani Banda, for having inspired the fight for dignity and equality in many nations.

In a solemn ceremony held at the Revolution Palace, Cuban President Raul Castro received the Order on behalf of Fidel.

Austin Sichinga, Executive Secretary of Zambia’s State House, said during the ceremony that Fidel devoted his life to serve and support humankind, while inspiring many leaders of liberation movements around the world.

Sichinga highlighted that Fidel, even under the rigor of the U.S. economic blockade of Cuba, has continued supporting other nations through collaboration actions in different sectors, especially health and education.

Likewise, added the Zambian official, Fidel was the architect of  internationalism with the peoples of the African continent and he is considered worldwide an incomparable leader.

Secretary of the Cuban Council of State Homero Acosta thanked the Zambian delegation for the recognition to Fidel on behalf of the Council of State, its President and the Cuban people.

“We can assure that the leader of the Cuban Revolution will receive it as recognition to the people, and as homage to thousands of Cuban soldiers and officials who fought in African lands and particularly to those who gave their lives fighting,” Homero said and added that it also constitutes a recognition to the doctors, professors and technicians from Cuba who are working in other countries as part of collaboration programs.

On behalf of Fidel, Homero thanked the President, government and people of Zambia.
