Cuban professor Angel Vazquez, one of the biggest promoters of the opera in the island, was honored here as "Knight of the Order of the Italian Star", award given by European country.
During the opening of the XV Workshop on Language, Literature and Italian Culture in Cuba, that country's ambassador in Havana, Carmine Robustelli, noted the coincidence of this tribute to the bicentennial year of the birth of Giuseppe Verdi, composer to which Vazquez has dedicated part of his large research.
The university professor is recognized on the island for his deep knowledge of the opera in the European country.
Meanwhile, Cuban historian Eusebio Leal said that the seminar is a new opportunity to highlight the intimate historical ties between the two nations spiritual, said Granma newspaper.
On this occasion, the meeting is devoted to two figures zenith of culture of the European peninsula, the writer Giovanni Boccaccio, author of the Decameron, and the thinker Niccolo Machiavelli.
