Students, professors and workers of the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua (UNAN-Leon) have begun a collection campaign in solidarity with Cuba.
According to Granma news daily, professors and workers participating in the initiative “With Cuba Today” will donate the equivalent to a half-
day salary while students will donate a percentage of their grant to contribute to the recovery efforts underway in the Caribbean country after the devastation caused by hurricanes Gustav and Ike.
In this regard, according to the website www.lavozdelsandinismo.com, this campaign will spread to other education centers that are part of Nicaragua’s National Council of Universities.
The General Secretary of UNAN-Leon, Roger Gurdian, said that the university’s duty is to lend a hand of friendship and solidarity to the Cuban people.
