Cuban President Raul Castro said that his current visit to Namibia will contribute to further strengthening political and cooperation relations between both countries.

Cuban President Raul Castro said that his current visit to Namibia will contribute to further strengthening political and cooperation relations between both countries.
Following the official welcoming and talks with Namibia’s President Hifikepunye Lucas Pohamba, Raul Castro pointed out that his exchange with his Namibian counterpart corroborated once again that both countries share similar criteria on issues that are the center of concern of humankind.
The Cuban Head of State described as indestructible the friendship relations uniting the Namibian and the Cuban people; such relations were forged under the guide of two outstanding men like Fidel Castro and Sam Nujoma during the long struggle against racism and in favor of independence, he said.
Raul Castro stressed that his visit to the African nation will consolidate political and cooperation links amidst the huge challenge posed on the struggle to maintain sovereignty, preserve peace and foster economic and social development of both nations, Granma newspaper reported.
During his current visit to Namibia the Cuban president and his delegation were offered an official supper by Namibia’s Head of State Hifikepunye Lucas Pohamba, which was attended by Namibia’s historic leader Sam Nujoma, who is a close friend of Cuba.
In his welcoming words to the visitors, President Pohamba recalled the disinterested assistance given by the Cuban Revolution, headed by Fidel Castro, when Namibia was fighting the Apartheid regime and to gain its right to self-determination.
Pohamba recalled that the thousands of Namibian professionals formed in Cuba, along with Cuba’s cooperation in fields like health care, have been key factors for his country’s development. He also ratified his country’s firm rejection of the US economic blockade of Cuba and supported the demand for the release of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters held in US jails for over 10 years now.
Following Pohamba’s statements, Raul Castro said that his visit gives continuity to that of Namibia’s President when he came to Cuba last February.
Raul stressed that his visit has allowed the exchange on countless issues including the international situation and he pointed out that in the face of the danger posed by the current world situation, the main challenge to deal with is facing the present with success, develop the economy and consolidate unity and cooperation among South countries. Africa is part and parcel of what we are and what we want for our future, said the Cuban President.
