President of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP) Orlando Lugo Fonte described as very important the use of agroecological techniques in Cuban agriculture that contribute to increase the yield in farms.

During the opening session of the 8 Meeting of Organic and Sustainable Agriculture in the National Hotel of Cuba, Lugo Fonte said that the implementation of this technique allows a better use of the different sorts of soils and the preservation of the environment, according to Cuban New Agency.

He also said that using organic fertilizers produced by biological pesticide is a good choice for the national economy considering the lack of chemical fertilizers.

President of the Latin American Scientific Society of Agroecology (SOCLA) Miguel Altigri also attended the opening session of the event.

He stated that Cuba is an example to the world in the rational using of resources and the protection of the environment.

The event is organized by the Cuban Association of Agricultural and Forest Workers (ACTAF) and will last until Friday 14.
