Argentinian media gave wide coverage to the renewal of diplomatic relations between Cuba and the United States, which coincided in describing as historical fact, and highlighted the repeated call of the island to put an end to the blockade.

Since Tuesday evening, when U.S. digital information services began to say the announcement both countries would do, the Argentina press was covering on Wednesday the event that was a milestone in the continent.

In fact, the formalization of official ties and the announcement of the early reopening of embassies in Washington and Havana, and the financial crisis of the European Union with Greece, were the two international news that captured media attention in Argentina during the last hours.

Several television channels, such as "Cronica TV" and "C5N," even broadcast live some fragments of the speech made by President Barack Obama, while "La Nacion" newspapers stressed the statement by the Cuban government.

"There cannot be normal relations between Cuba and the United States, while the blockade persists" was the headline that daily chose to post to its website a version of the statement signed by President Raul Castro.

It began with the Cuban statement that "restored diplomatic ties with the United States, lifting the blockade, among other things, for the normalization of relations, will be essential." Prior to the announcement, "Tiempo Argentino" newspaper dedicated Sunday a whole page to analyze the historical dispute between the United States and Cuba, and the consequences it has represented to the island the prolonged economic, financial and commercial blockade.
