Syrian press media highlighted Thursday the announcement of the normalization of relations between Cuba and the United States, an event they considered historical.
Syrian official news agency SANA reported the speech of US President Barack Obama, in which he admitted the failure of the policy of his country towards the Caribbean island and a new approach to bilateral links.
The Syrian report also highlights the speech of the Cuban President, Raúl Castro, who announced the arrival in Havana of the three Cuban anti-terrorist prisoners that remained in the U.S. for more than 16 years.
"Cuba has advocated for a respectful dialogue in a reciprocal manner, without prejudice to national independence and sovereignty," said the Cuban President, quoted by Sana.
For its part, the Syrian newspaper Al Thawra also considered the normalization of bilateral relations after more than five decades of dispute.
