The visit to Cuba of Austrian President, Heinz Fischer, will strengthen bilateral ties and economic exchanges between the two countries, he stated.
The President expressed satisfaction with the visit during a meeting with the press, where he stressed that Vienna and Havana celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations this year, which gives context to his visit to the island.
In the official meeting with his Cuban peer, Raul Castro, both leaders welcomed the positive state of ties between their countries, and discussed the gradual strengthening of cooperation and economic and trade bonds.
The President of Austria also said that he had discussed with Casto the 'difficult but important' process of normalizing relationships between Cuba and the United States.
The President noted that the relationship of the Caribbean nation with the European Union (EU) will have new stability and intensity and said, "it is very good that it is so."
Fischer also gave a keynote speech at the Main Lecture hall of the Havana University on the role of his nation in the European Union.
After the lecture, he answered some questions from students interested in knowing the position of the Alpine country on the future of ties between the bloc of 28 and Latin America and the Caribbean.
He also opened a forum between Austrian and Cuban business people for exploring business and investment opportunities, and was received by of the People's Power National Assembly (Parliament) President, Esteban Lazo.
