With a few days left till September 12, the date that marks ten years of unjust imprisonment in the United States of the five Cuban anti-terrorists, solidarity with Cuba organizations from around the world are coming together to observe the date.
Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Rene Gonzalez and Gerardo Hernandez, known as the Cuban Five, are serving severe sentences for monitoring Miami-based, anti-Cuban terrorist groups.
The five Cubans were in the United States to uncover information and warn Cubans about the violent plans of these groups who have caused the death of more than 3,400 people and left more than 2,000 wounded or disabled from 1959 to date.
The Peruvian-Cuban Friendship Houses will hold its Ninth National Meeting from September 26 through the 28, in Lima, Peru, where delegates will focus on the case and situation of the Cuban Five, reported Juventud Rebelde newspaper on Thursday.
According to the Organizing Committee’s website, each house will develop its own theme, analyze, discuss and approve later a final declaration, to then present their conclusions and contributions to the Havana event.
The Ninth National Meeting of Friendship Houses acquires special significance on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, under the leadership of Fidel and Raul Castro, and for the 80th anniversary of the birth of Ernesto Che Guevara, another great revolutionary leader and an example of proletarian internationalism.
Participants will also debate “The Impact of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the US Empire against Cuba,” “Revolution and Continuity of Cuba’s Revolutionary Process,” and “Solidarity with Cuba in View of the Bush Plan.”
Invited to the event will be representatives from the Committee of the Five Patriots, the Youth Committee for the Five Patriots, the Association of Relatives of Peruvian Students in Cuba, and political, trade union and social organizations from Peru.
