U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, Sylvia Burwell, begins a working visit to Cuba today, to be run until Saturday, October 22.

During her stay in the island, Burwell will hold a meeting with Cuban Public Health Minister, Roberto Morales. Both officials will review issues of the bilateral cooperation enshrined in the memorandum of understanding they signed in June, during the visit of Caribbean minister to the United States. During that visit, Morales and Burwell agreed to strengthen cooperation in areas such as confronting transmissible diseases, mainly those caused by arboviruses such as Zika, dengue and chikungunya, and the non-transmissible chronic ones such as cancer, diabetes, hypertension and their factors risk.

During this visit, the U.S. official will also meet with executives of the sector and tour health institutions and those of the medical, biotechnological and pharmaceutical industries.

Burwell will also participate in the Regional Meeting for Surveillance and Control Strategy of the Arboviruses, to be held in this capital on October 20 and 21.
