Nearly 200,000 Youths Studying Medical Sciences in Cuba

A record number of almost 200,000 youths are currently studying Medical Sciences in Cuba, according to preliminary figures from the Cuban Public Health Minister published on Wednesday by Granma news daily.
Out of this figure, 22,749 are students from Third World countries who have been granted scholarships in the Caribbean country.
Granma explains that Medical Sciences include Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing as well as Health Technology and Psychology.
At present, there are four Higher Institutes for the teaching of these degree courses in Havana, Santiago de Cuba, Camaguey and Villa Clara. In addition, there are 24 Schools of Medicine, four Schools of Dentistry and a similar number of schools of Health Technology and Psychology.
There are also 33 schools of medicine and a school of dentistry in which Latin American and Caribbean youths are being trained as doctors as part of the New Program for the Training of Latin American Doctors, which has joined the program of the Latin American School of Medicine.
