Cuba, Spain on Human Rights

Cuba and Spain have closed here a new round of talks on human rights within the framework of the political consultations the two countries started in 2007.

The fourth meeting of that mechanism was headed by the Cuban Foreign Ministry's director for Multilateral Affairs, Anayansi Rodriguez, and the Spanish Foreign Ministry's general director of Foreign Policy, Alfonso Lucini.

The two sides coped with all issues linked to human rights promotion and protection under a constructive and sincere atmosphere, based on mutual respect, diplomatic sources told Prensa Latina.

The two countries assessed their participation and cooperation with UN human rights organizations, as well as the work of the UN Human Rights Council.

They also analyzed the state of legally binding international treaties such as conventions against torture, and race and sex discrimination.

After calling the encounter positive and useful, the Spanish and Cuban authorities agreed to hold the fifth meeting next year in Havana.
