The International Committee to Free the Cuban Five, imprisoned in the United States in 1998, on Monday criticized an editorial in The Washington Post, which lies about the work done by the antiterrorist fighters in this country.
On its website, the organization criticized an article published by the newspaper on December 31, which tries to perpetuate the unjust punishment against the Five, as Rene Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino and Fernando Gonzalez are known internationally.
According to the Committee, the editorial dismisses the global support for the cause of those Cubans, four of whom face unjust sentences, while Rene, the first to serve his prison term, must remain on U.S. territory for three years under a supervised release.
The Committee also said that The Washington Post invalidate the opinions of artists, intellectuals, Nobel Prize winners and even former President Jimmy Carter, who advocates freedom for the Five.
Antonio, Rene, Fernando, Ramon and Gerardo were arrested 13 years ago for monitoring the activities of Miami-based terrorist groups that were planning acts against the Cuban and U.S. peoples.
