Organizations in Miami Demand Liberation of Cuban Five
Organizations of the Cuban migration in the city of Miami, Florida, met in favour of the release of the five Cuban antiterrorist patriots in prison in the United States, mostly known as the Cuban Five, reported Cuban-American journalist Andres Gomez on Monday.

Organizations of the Cuban migration in the city of Miami, Florida, met in favour of the release of the five Cuban antiterrorist patriots in prison in the United States, mostly known as the Cuban Five, reported Cuban-American journalist Andres Gomez on Monday.
Entities forming the so-called Martian Alliance joined to the international call to increase the efforts in favour of the Cuban Five, who are in prison since their arrest in 1998, for trying to stop violent actions against their homeland, said Gomez, director of the magazine Areito Digital.
Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino, Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez were arrested 14 years ago, and received strong penal sentences in a tricky political trial in Miami, which violated the US laws and the international rights.
Rene Gonzalez served his penal sentence for 13 years, but since he was released in October 2011 he should stay in Florida under supervised freedom for 2.5 years more.
Gomez said in his article the ceremony also commemorated the 35th anniversary of the Antonio Maceo Brigade, formed by Cubans living in the US, who defend the Cuban sovereignty.
Members of the Jose Marti Association, the Bolivarian Miami Circle and other organizations were present at the act.
Max Lesnik, an official of the Martian Alliance and one of the main speakers in the activity, said that the event discussed topics related to the appeals of the Cuban Five, the political movement supporting them and their working perspectives.
Other aspects were the Cuban policy regarding migration, the aggressiveness of the US government against Cuba and the perspectives of the relations between Washington and Havana in Barack Obama�s second mandate as President of the US.
