Labor leaders in Sancti Spiritus province (central Cuba) demanded today from US President Barack Obama the immediate release of five anti-terrorist Cuban fighters unfairly held in US prisons.
In a preparatory meeting for International Workers Day (May 1st), the labor leaders expressed their solidarity with Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino, Fernando Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero and Rene Gonzalez, who were detained and given harsh prison sentences in the United States for monitoring terrorist actions by Miami-based anti-Cuban groups.
Secretary General of the Confederation of Cuban Workers in Sancti Spiritus, Domingo Gutierrez, said May 1st is a bright opportunity to demand the release and return home of The Cuban Five, as these heroes are known worldwide.
"Our actions and those carried out worldwide for the Cuban Five are oriented for Obama to use his constitutional prerogative powers and release them immediately and unconditionally," he said.
