Delegates participating in the 10th Meeting of Educators Guantanamo-Dominican Republic highlighted today the role of Fidel Castro in the creation of the Association of Educators of Cuba and the Association of Educators of Latin America and the Caribbean.
Maricel Salles, president of the Guantanamo association, referred to the closing ceremony of the International Congress of Pedagogy 1989, in which historical leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro suggested educators to create an association in which they could develop scientific activities and others of interest to this field.
International vice president of the Association of Educators of Latin America and the Caribbean (AELAC) Rosa Caro said that a year later, also following the initiative of Fidel, this regional organization was created, bringing together 25 countries.
'I am a founder of AELAC, I am one of its vice-presidents, although there are many difficulties and obstacles in the work, I always think of Commander in Chief, in everything he told us, that's why I keep going, all this is the result of his vision of the future, of his dreams of integration,' Caro told the Prensa Latina news agency.
The Cuban association was created on March 6th, 1989 and has offices in all the provinces of the country, gathering more than 40,000 members and currently playing a key role in the development of Pedagogical Sciences in Cuba.
Meanwhile, AELAC brings together educators, organizations and institutions that develop educational activities in countries such as Argentina, Aruba, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Guadeloupe, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela, among others.
