Cuban Ambassador to Canada, Teresa Vicente Sotolongo, denounced the nearly-50-year US economic, financial and commercial blockade of Cuba, which she described as the main obstacle for the development of the Caribbean nation.

During a press conference held in the newsroom of the Canadian Parliament, the Cuban diplomat gave details of the negative impact by the US anti-Cuba unilateral policy, which has cause the Caribbean nation losses amounting to 93 billion dollars.  

The Cuban ambassador said that despite the damaged inflicted by two recent hurricanes on the country’s economic infrastructure,  the Bush administration maintains the already stiffened economic measures.

Cuba counts on the support of the international community to once again express  overwhelming support of a Cuba-sponsored resolution demanding the lifting of the US economic blockade, next October 29 at the UN General Assembly.

An increasing majority of UN member nations have voted in favor of the resolution titled “Necessity to End the US Economic, Commercial and Financial Blockade against Cuba” for 16 years in a raw.
