"It is not an easy thing to do in the midst of today’s problems complexities in the world today. It is difficult to maintain that inflexible opinion, maintain this inflexible independence, but we will maintain it. This Revolution was not imported from anywhere. It is a genuine product of this country. Nobody told us how we must do it, and we have carried it out. (APPLAUSE) And nobody will have to tell us how we must continue to carry it out, and we will continue to carry it out. We have learned to write history and we will continue to write it. Let no one doubt it".

“ […] What has Cuba done to be condemned?  What have the Cuban people done to merit the Declaration of Costa Rica?  Our people have done nothing but break the chains! Our people have done nothing else but fighting for a better future, without hurting any other people or taking anything away from any other people.”
“Julio Antonio Mella, one day you said that even after we are dead we are useful, because we serve as a standard.  And so it has been!  You were always the standard for our workers and youth in their revolutionary struggles, and today you are the inspirational standard, exemplary, victorious and invincible, of the Socialist Revolution of Cuba!”

"Let us march forward!  Forward, all of you invincible standard-bearers of such a noble profession, in demonstration of the fact that all the gold in the world cannot subdue the conscience of a true guardian of health and life, who is ready to go to any country where its services are required, convinced that a better world is possible!”

“Revolution is the sense of the historical moment; it is changing everything that must be changed; it is full equality and freedom; it is being treated and treating others like human beings; it is emancipating ourselves, by ourselves and with our very own efforts; it is challenging the dominant powerful forces within and outside of the social and national arena; it is defending the values one believes in at the cost of any sacrifice; it is modesty, selflessness, altruism, solidarity and heroism; it is fighting with audacity, intelligence and realism; it is never telling a lie or violating e

“Cuba’s fate must be bright, because our people has set off, our people is standing on its feet and is determined to do anything.  And when peoples rise as the Cuban people have done, when peoples set off as the Cuban people have done, with its Rebel Army at the forefront, then there is no other alternative.”

The Revolution is the most complex and the most convulsive of all historical events. It is an infallible law of all revolutions, and history teaches that no true revolution can ever fail to be an extraordinarily convulsive process. If it is not, it is not a revolution.

“The republic was not free in 1895, and the dream entertained by the ‘mambises’ was frustrated at the last minute; the Revolution did not materialize and was frustrated by its enemies.  This time the Revolution has the support of the entire people, of all the revolutionaries, of the honorable militants.  Its strength is so big and uncontrollable that this time victory is guaranteed!”

“In Cuba, the social and human nightmare denounced in 1953, which gave rise to our struggle, had been left behind just a few years after the triumph of the Revolution in 1959. Soon, there were no longer (…) undernourished, barefoot, parasite-ridden children, without schools or teachers, even if their schooling took place beneath the shade of a tree. They no longer died in massive numbers from hunger, disease, from lack of resources or medical care. No longer were the rural areas filled with unemployed men and women.”
